It was about the time for breakfast and I was in a rather sad mood. Reason? That day was the last day I had in India. That evening we would be leaving to the airport, back to Singapore. So, I had thought that this was it, I have only managed to find this number of creatures. But that was not to be. My grandpa just returned home and told me about a dead snake found along the road on the way to the church. I was suddenly so excited that I immediately put on my slippers, got my camera and ran to ask him where the snake was. He directed me to the place where it was. On the way, he told me that the people living there said that it died after being run over a car. In other words, a Roadkill. What was more exciting was that he said that the snake looked like a Russel's Viper. That was one of my favourite snakes that I wanted to find. But upon reaching there, this was the snake that I saw:

It was a Checkered Keelback, a species of non-venomous water snakes that I had two other encounters with. My excitement all changed to agony as I pitied this poor, harmless snake. It had done no wrong, but it was destined to die. Feeling very pitiful for this snake, I moved it around and took a picture of it in a different position. I took a close-up shot of its head too.

I took a picture of its ventrum too before asking the nearby people to take and bury it somewhere.

Roadkills are just such a waste of life. Snakes need to bask but these poor souls were probably enjoying a nice sun tan, when they were driven to their graves. Thosand of snakes and other animals are being killed because of roadkills. If this were to continue, many innocent snakes like this particular one will have to suffer death for no reason. I would really appreciate if people drive carefully for these poor snakes and all other creatues.

poor snake. :-(
Yes...
But I'm not really sure you know, someone could have also killed it by purpose.
The people there may not be telling the truth.
That is a problem, most people think a dead snake is better than a live one.
Yup!
Exactly what some of my relatives there say.
"The Best Snake is a Dead Snake."
People there fear snakes mainly because of their venom, and most people think that all snakes ARE venomous and can kill.
Whenever they see a snake, their first thought will be to kill it.
