A (Failed) Try At Birding

I was super bored one afternoon, so I decided I'll try making use of my 55-200mm lens by shooting some backyard birds. I brought with me a plastic chair and sat below the trees in my backyard, and waited. First bird I spotted was this tall egret. Very common.

Then appeared this Flameback Woodpecker, also a very common and noisy bird.

I couldn't find any more attractive birds so I decided to get the hell out of the yard, instead of sitting there and get bitten by mosquitoes. Right then, I spotted a very slight movement on a branch a few ten metres above my head. Yes, it was a bird, and I tried taking a shot to identify it.

It was an owl, also a very common bird in these areas. But you rarely see them during daytime. This one was probably having a nap high up in the trees. I took a few more shots, as it was really tough to focus on the bird.

So that was it, my birding for the day was over. I was starting to think that the 55-200mm lens wasn't of much use to me. Well, we'll see how it goes.

Those were some pretty cool birds if you ask me. I've been trying to identify the owl. It's hard to do from a photo because I cant tell it's size, or see facial markings or eye color.
It appears to be some kind of owlet. I've only seen one flameback, and no owlets. It would be a thrill to see either one.

Well John, they are sorta interesting, but really common here. The owl may be an owlet, it was only about 25cm in height.

Thanks for the comment anyway!

Thanks Calvin and Adrielle!

Calvin, if you're a bird lover, India is a MUST visit place coz of the amazing diversity of birds you can find here. Often, I even spot the Asian Paradise Flycatcher!
