Hardest Dragonfly to Shoot

This dragonfly is probably the most challenging species to shoot when you are in India. There may be even more difficult ones but this is one species that is so common, yet so challenging to shoot. I spent hours trying to shoot this dragonfly that was flying around my pond. It flies off to a different spot at the slightest movement. Even after trying so hard, I only managed these few shots.

Here's a shot taken without flash.

And with flash. It turns out that dragonflies don't look good in photographs taken with my camera in which I've used flash. Sunlight, on the other hand, is a real helper. But unfortunately there were trees surrounding the pond, and hence no sunlight.

If you are ever in Japan the 'oriental scarlets' here are extremely docile. They are the easiest to shoot.
